One of our specialties at Lifespan is the comprehensive evaluation and intervention of children and adolescents who are experiencing behavioral and/or leaning difficulties at home and school. We are experts in the evaluation of such conditions as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, learning disabilities, and depression. We are also experts in the evaluation of children who are considered gifted. We believe that youth need to be assessed in a holistic way so that individual strengths and challenges are identified. Of course we diagnose certain conditions, but we are even more interested in locating the potential in each child and implementing a strength-based approach to intervention. Since our clinicians have both school-based and hospital-based training and experiences, they are experts and look at children from both school and mental health/medical based perspective.
Since our beginning in 1999, we have worked with many children and adolescents who have such difficulties as lack of motivation to do well in school, attention difficulties, sensory difficulties, anxiety, depression, oppositional behavior, and adjustment difficulties. We have also worked with children who are gifted and need an approach that is considered more of an enrichment experience that helps these children maximize their potential.
We understand that there are many different types of specialists in the field that can work with your child. This can be quite confusing for the parent in need. We can help you as a parent decide what strategies to take, sort out who to turn to, or what school to attend. It is very challenging to be a parent, and even more challenging to be a parent of a child with special needs. We love to problem-solve with you so that your child will be successful in the future. We will also work collaboratively with medical and other professionals involved in the care with your child. |
